How To Protect Yourself and Loved Ones

Warrior's Cove Martial Arts & Fitness | Self Defense Training

In the United States and certain other parts of the world we have seen significant increases in violent crimes.

What can you do to protect yourself and your family? Is it possible for normal men and women to learn how to effectively defend themselves if ever attacked? The answer is yes!

Obviously no amount of preparation can absolutely guarantee your safety, but you can dramatically increase the probability of surviving and winning a fight based on how much preparation (training) you want to do. Many people find good self defense training fun and addictive, and some choose to continue their self-defense training for years while achieving advanced fighting skills!

The first and perhaps most important step for self defense training that actually works, is to find a highly qualified reality based self defense instructor that teaches professional self defense classes. The key word here is reality based! Martial Arts today are mostly sporting games that bear little resemblance to real fighting skills.

Here are some examples of unrealistic martial art training/styles: Sport Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling do not practice strikes (kicking, punching, elbow and knees strikes) all of which happen in real fights. Karate, Muay Thai Kickboxing and almost all Kung Fu styles do not practice comprehensive grappling and groundfighting (fighting after falling or being pushed to the ground), all of which happen in real fights.

Here are some important elements for both men’s and women’s self defense training:

  • How to identify and avoid dangerous situations.
  • Proper use of chemical sprays to avoid the need for hand-to-hand fighting if attacked.
  • Standing Strike defense
  • Standing Grappling defense
  • Ground Striking defense
  • Ground Grappling defense
  • Optional: Advanced training on how to defend / disarm against stick, knife and guns.
  • Optional: Advanced training in proper and safe use of firearms if you choose to carry a gun and if allowed by law.

At the WarriorsCove.com we have been teaching reality based self defense to men, women and children since 1980! We have the experience of how to keep you safe while teaching you reality based fighting moves. This is another reason finding a highly qualified team of self-defense coaches are needed, so they can keep your training safe! Good coaches and instructors will also treat you with respect, explain everything clearly so you are not confused, and teach you at a level according to your current physical abilities and then advance you to more difficult training at an appropriate pace that you can handle.

In addition to the self defense skills discussed above, reality based self defense training is a great way to stay in shape and meet new friends! Perhaps you will find it to be something exciting to look forward to a few times a week that gets you out of your current routine, challenges you, and even pushes your comfort zone a bit.

That brings us to the last significant benefit of reality based self-defense training: This training will prepare you to stay calm and think clearly in stressful situations! Therefore, you will be able to relax and deal with everyday stress at work and in life much better! When you become prepared for an actual fight, most other stressors in life are easy to deal with while staying calm and thinking clearly!
